What's Hot

As seasons change, chefs revamp their menus and celebrities discover new diets, foods come in and out of fashion and the nation changes the contents of its shopping basket faster than you can say blueberries. Keep up to date with the latest food trends and check out the Red Tractor guide to "What's Hot in the Food Aisle".

Turkey - Gobble up a Red Tractor turkey! British Turkeys have joined the Red Tractor scheme. That means you can now have an entirely Red Tractor Christmas – how’s that for festive cheer? But turkeys aren’t just for Christmas. Low in fat and full of flavour it’s the perfect ingredient for your New Year fast!

Pears - Did you know that pear trees are often used to make musical instruments? Have a look to see how many pear performances you can spot during the proms!

Listening to your favourite fruit is all very well, but if you prefer to taste this delicious treat now’s the perfect time. English pears are just coming into season. Try poaching in a spiced sugar and claret sauce. Serve this to dinner party guests and the evening won’t go pear shaped!

Goats Cheese - No kidding, goats milk products are currently some of the hottest on the market! Retailers are reporting a sharp rise in sales. That’s because many dairy allergy sufferers claim that goats products are less likely to affect them. Of course, you’ll need to consult your doctor to find out whether that’s true. But one thing’s for sure, a salad of Welsh goats cheese certainly tastes good! Try serving some on a bed of beetroot, topped with a drizzle of Balsamic.

Peas - Here’s some happea news, guaranteed to put a smile on your face! A celebrity exhibition has been launched in London to celebrate the humble pea. Fifty famous mums will donate pictures of smiley faces (drawn on pea-shaped green paper) to the Happea Faces exhibition. These special designs will then be auctioned for baby charity Tommy’s in February 2008.

But why peas? And what’s that got to do with babies? Well, peas are a great source of folic acid – the stuff that mums-to-be need to keep their bumps healthy.

Butternut Squash - This winter favourite must be the grand daddy of root vegetables. Did you know that the butternut squash is over 10,000 years old! A member of the pumpkin family, the squash was popular in the Americas for centuries before finally being brought to Europe by Christopher Columbus in the 15th century. Now it’s a staple in many British recipes, providing a hearty, warming ingredient to ward of the cold weather.

Oven Chips – Good news for chip lovers …

It’s official! From October 2007, all McCain chips will be made entirely from British potatoes – and that can only mean one thing: They’re getting the Red Tractor logo, making them the first major frozen food brand to join our ranks! Of course, that’s not the only reason to enjoy them. Made with potatoes and a splash of sunflower oil, they contain just five per cent fat and still taste great!

Red Tractor - One logo that will never go out of fashion when it comes to food and the Red Tractor is on all our fashion foods. Not just for trend-setters it guarantees you good quality safe basics such as meat, vegetables, fruit and dairy products. Red Tractor produce is like the little black dress of the food industry, you can always jazz it up with accessories!
