If you think good hygiene is important when you’re preparing food at home, why settle for less from farmers and food companies? Assured Food Standards requires Red Tractor food producers to ensure cleanliness and reduce the risks of contamination all the way from the farm to the supermarket shelf.

When you see the Red Tractor you’re guaranteed that the food you’re buying meets high environmental and animal welfare standards. Red Tractor farmers are required to provide their livestock with fresh water and a healthy diet at all times, as well as adequate shelter and space. They’re also required to take care of wildlife habitats and make sure they don’t pollute streams and rivers.
Our rigorous standards are strictly enforced
Our standards are developed in consultation with experts on issues such as animal welfare and food safety. We believe they should be taken seriously, which is why the 78,000 farmers we work with are independently inspected at regular intervals. We don’t hesitate to suspend certification if a farm isn’t up to scratch.
We operate independently to serve your best interest
Assured Food Standards is owned by the entire food industry but we operate independently on a not-for-profit basis, with an independent chairman in charge of our affairs. This enables us to benefit from a wide range of experience and expertise without giving any one organisation undue influence. Our Board includes a consumer champion to make sure that Red Tractor shoppers have their say.
Our food can be traced back to the farms it came from
More and more people are buying locally produced food to support farmers and reduce the ‘food miles’ associated with transporting food over long distances. The farm visits that our independent inspectors make and the series of checks they carry out enable us to trace all Red Tractor products to their farms of origin. The Red Tractor logo provides an independently verified guarantee of origin. If you see the Union flag in the logo, you can be sure the product has come from UK farms. No doubts, no compromise.
